How to record Discord scheduled events automatically

Meetcord can join by itself the Discord scheduled events held in a voice channel. You turn it on once with /config auto-join-events: from then on, when an event starts, the bot joins, records it and posts the minutes when it ends, without anyone typing /join.

Turn it on step by step

  1. With the Manage Server permission, run /config auto-join-events, or open the server's settings page on the web dashboard.
  2. Pick the mode: on every event with a voice channel, or only on those in the server's usual voice channel.
  3. Create the event in Discord as usual, choosing a voice channel as its location.
  4. When the event starts, Meetcord joins the channel and records. The minutes are posted when it ends.

The three modes

  • Off: the bot only records when someone types /join. This is the default.
  • Usual voice channel only: it records the events in the channel you set with /config default-meeting-channel, for example the weekly meeting one.
  • Every event with a voice channel: it records any scheduled event in the server that is held in a voice channel.

Leaving one event unrecorded

Not every event is a meeting. On creating an event that is going to be recorded, its author gets a message from Meetcord with a "Do not record this event" button. Whoever created the event or manages the server can press it, and turn recording back on later.

The event also warns attendees: its description states that Meetcord will record and transcribe it, so people know before they join.

What it is good for

  • Recurring meetings: the team's weekly always ends with minutes, even if nobody remembers the command.
  • Community sessions: talks or Q&As that people want to go over in writing afterwards.
  • Those who could not attend: they read the summary and the decisions in the thread instead of asking to be filled in.

Common questions

Does it count towards the plan's minutes?

Yes. A recorded event uses minutes just like a meeting started with /join, and has the same length limit as the plan.

Does it work with events that are not in a voice channel?

No. Only events whose location is a voice channel in the server are recorded; external events have no audio to record.

Who can turn it on?

Whoever has the Manage Server permission. It is the same permission required for any other setting of the bot.
