How to get automatic meeting minutes in Discord
Automatic minutes are the written summary of a meeting that an AI produces from its transcript. In Discord you can get them with Meetcord: it records the voice channel, transcribes each person and, when the meeting ends, posts the summary, the decisions made and the action items with their owner in a thread.
What the minutes contain
- Summary: what was discussed and what was concluded, in a few sentences.
- Decisions: what was agreed, point by point.
- Action items: each one mentions its owner in Discord, so they get the notification.
- Transcript: everything that was said, with name and timestamp, in case something needs checking.
Get the minutes of a meeting
- Add Meetcord to your server.
- When the meeting starts, type /join from the voice channel. You can give the meeting a name in the command itself.
- Hold the meeting as usual. Nobody has to take notes.
- Type /leave. The minutes are posted in that meeting's thread shortly after.
Where they are posted
Every meeting has its own thread, named after its start date and time, so the minutes stay ordered in the channel and can be searched. By default the thread is created in the channel where /join is run.
With /config delivery-channel you can send the minutes always to one specific channel, for example #minutes, or to the chat of the voice channel itself. The same minutes are on the web dashboard, which you enter with your Discord account.
How far to trust them
The summary is written by an AI model and can be wrong: it may miss a nuance, or treat as decided something that was only proposed. That is why the minutes always come with the transcript, so any point can be checked against what was actually said.
If something failed during the meeting, the minutes say so at the top: a stretch that could not be transcribed, a summary that was not available or a recording cut short on reaching the time limit.
Common questions
What language are the minutes in?
The one spoken the most during the meeting. The summary, the section headings and the notices come out in that language.
Who can read the minutes?
Whoever can see the channel the thread is in. Posting them in a private channel limits them to those with access to that channel, on the web dashboard too.
Can minutes be deleted?
Yes. Whoever manages the server can delete the audio or the whole record, with its transcript and its thread, from the record's page or with the buttons the bot leaves under it in Discord.
